The Story

An iconic layering piece of the grand Qing Dynasty, the Majia 马甲 (rider's vest) was worn by Manchurian women over their long robes. Parallel panel design and cloud arrow designs are key components of late Qing Dynasty style.

Short and cropped, this waistcoat is used to add shape and structure to the wide silhouettes of the time. Black trim highlights the construction, and cloud shaped arrows are placed along the side slits and chest panels, traditional symbols of auspiciousness.

Collar is highlighted by a scalloped trim, in the shape of a cloud collar (yunjian, 云肩). While most cloud collars in the modern hanfu scene are separate pieces, usually ornate with long dangling pieces, these simplified versions sewn into the designs also count as Yunjian 云肩.

Choose from a variety of serene colors, perfect for layering over your Manchurian robe of choice. Alternatively, looks great with your favorite turtleneck knit sweater and jeans. These fun vests add a touch of 18th century opulence to any ensemble.

This item has a 30 day construction period.
